Attack Alarm Volume
« on: May 14, 2009, 01:18:28 PM »
Hi there,

I've been looking at the attack alarms on your website and see that they have varying loudness.  Obviously louder is better, but how much difference is there between them?

What can the volumes be compared to?  Can you compare the volume to another noise I would recognise?

Thanks,

Joan

Hi Joan,

Yes, louder is better but you also need to consider the convenience of carrying the alarm.  Our loudest alarm is the Minder Torch Alarm at 138dB.  A humans pain threshold is typically around 130dB, so 138dB on the Minder alarm is very effective, but really anything over 100dB is going to attract attention.

For comparison purposes, a jack hammer at a distance of 1m outputs approximately 100dB and a jet at 100m outputs between 110 and 140dB.

Hopefully this gives you an indication of the level of sound output our alarms can produce.
